The first 3 of the 10 commandments (Exodus 20), command us to put God first, worship Him and honor His Name. In Matthew 22, Jesus asked Peter ‘do you love me’ three times, making it clear that we are to love God first. James 4:4 and 1John 2:15-17 make it clear that we are not to be friends with or love this world. Luke 16:13 states we can not love or serve two masters
Can a person that loves this world and the things in it, putting God and His Word in second place, be a Christian? According to God’s Word, NO. According to 1st John ‘the love of the Father is not in him.’ and James 4:4 ‘Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.’
If anyone puts their church, religion, friends, family, political view, country, organizations, pleasures, land, riches or even their very life, before God and His Holy Word, that person is an ‘enemy of God’.
Let each of us turn to God for forgiveness and remember to always keep Him first in our lives. Let us turn from the love of things of this world, and receive the great merciful forgiveness of All Mighty God.
Remember God’s Holy Word. Jesus died for all of us, and when we turn to Him for forgiveness, we can become a Child of God. And when we fail, God is there with forgiveness (I John 1:9). But if anyone continues to love the things of this world, putting God and His Word in second place, God will say to them, ‘I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.’ (Matthew 7:23)

Exodus 20:3-7 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
John 21:17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because He said unto him the third time, Lovest thou Me? And he said unto Him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

1John 2:15-17 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
Matthew 10:37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
Luke 16:13 No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
